It is equipped with a unique, technologically advanced research infrastructure.

Its mission is to optimally use the scientific, research and teaching potential of medicine, veterinary medicine and biotechnology for the development of veterinary medicine and medicine.

The Centre will fulfil its mission by implementing medical projects and research results in the therapy of various types of diseases and ailments observed in humans. Research assumptions and the effectiveness of patient treatment will be verified in experiments on animal models, which is often missing in the translational medicine centres that are being set up around the world. The Centre is one of Poland’s and the world’s first such unit operating in this area.

During the ceremonial opening of the Centre of Translational Medicine, Rector of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Prof. Michał Zasada, emphasised the contribution of many people who he described as friends of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, to the establishment of the Centre. He thanked everyone not only for their friendly attitude towards the undertaking, but also towards the University. Referring to the words of Minister Przemysław Czarnek, he said that the Warsaw University of Life Sciences can be seen symbolically as a community of people involved in research, technology transfer and cooperation that serve life, which is well reflected in the University’s English name, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

Those taking part in the ceremony emphasised the innovative nature of the undertaking, which enables the implementation of pioneering solutions in the field of public health, and is of great importance not only for the development of science, but also for the medical system in Poland. Combining knowledge and various research ideas “from animal to human” is an important factor in the progress of medicine, it was stated.

The establishment of the Centre of Translational Medicine marks the crowning of over 10 years of efforts, conceptual, research work, and organisational work carried out within the framework of the Veterinary Research Centre, Biomedical Research Centre and Centre of Regenerative Medicine projects, financed from European Union funds. The project was financed from the state budget reserve and WULS own funds. A sum of over PLN 100 million in funding was provided for the implementation of this undertaking by the Mazovia Region Office as part of the Regional Operational Programme of the Mazovia Region. These three centres were successive stages leading up to the establishment of the Centre of Translational Medicine.

The Centre’s first project will be led by prof. Zbigniew Gałązka of the Medical University of Warsaw, together with WULS teams. It will concern the “Application of leukocyte platelet-rich fibrin as a stimulator of the angiogenesis process in patients undergoing revascularisation due to critical lower limb ischemia”.

The project participants unanimously emphasised that they were very impressed with the idea of the Centre of Translational Medicine and its equipment. The Centre has excellently equipped laboratories for imaging and functional studies, advanced medical analytics, cell and tissue cultures, as well as animal facilities for laboratory, farm and companion animals that meet the conditions for obtaining GLP certification.

The film presents the research capabilities of the Centre of Translational Medicine.
