The Center for Translational Medicine is equipped with research and teaching infrastructure and a team of specialists in veterinary medicine, biology, biotechnology, and medicine. It conducts scientific activities in collaboration with numerous international institutions.
The Center for Translational Medicine at Warsaw University of Life
Sciences (SGGW) is open to scientific collaboration
and service-oriented
activities in the following areas:
Development and Use of Animal Models for Scientific Research and
Educational Purposes
The Center for Translational Medicine holds registration as an authorized animal research
facility
and possesses the prestigious AAALAC accreditation,
which confirms compliance
with the highest standards in laboratory animal welfare,
procedural quality, and international
ethical guidelines.
The Center offers, among others:
Development of small (mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits) and large animal models
(mainly pigs as models of human diseases),
enabling surgical and pharmacological
induction of conditions such as
type 1 and type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases,
stroke, spinal cord injuries, neurodegenerative diseases,
orthopedic pathologies,
cancer, inflammatory states,
and others – under strictly controlled environmental
conditions
and veterinary supervision.
Physiological and pharmacological research
– assessment of the effects of drugs,
biologically active compounds, and
dietary factors on physiological and metabolic
parameters.
Testing of biomedical technologies
– validation of innovative implants, probes, drug
delivery systems, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic devices
in clinically relevant
conditions.
Use of telemetry systems
long-term monitoring of EEG, EMG, motor activity,
blood pressure,
bladder, intestinal, uterine, and nerve function.
Procedural support – consulting in the preparation of documentation for the Local
Ethical Committee and experimental design in accordance with the 3R principles.
- Organization of experimental research on animal models using modern technical
infrastructure, including collaboration with human medical doctors – access to fully
equipped operating rooms featuring dual anesthetic vaporizers (isoflurane and
sevoflurane), cardiac monitors, intraoperative fluoroscopy,
surgical microscopes, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, endoscopic systems, and Full HD camera systems for procedure transmission and recording.
systemy endoskopowe oraz system kamer Full HD do transmisji i rejestracji procedur.
Experimental surgical procedures on animal models
– comprehensive preparation of surgical models,
including operative induction of pathological conditions, device implantation,
biopsies, reconstructive procedures, and microsurgery.
Efficacy testing of biocidal products
– in accordance with the URPL permit: DIB-
IBW.0013.66.2022, dated 30.11.2022.
The Center is authorized to conduct studies
evaluating the efficacy
of PT 18 biocidal products required for national and EU
registration procedures.
Since 2022, testing has been conducted according to the
registered research procedure
“Non-standardized methodology for testing the efficacy
of a biocidal product intended for the control of crawling insects
using the spraying
method (CMT-1/2022)”,
approved by the Office for Registration of Medicinal
Products,
Medical Devices and Biocidal
Products.

VETERINARY section.
Laboratory Activities Using State-of-the-Art Research Equipment, including:
badawczego, w tym m.in.:
Cytotoxicity testing – in accordance with PN-EN ISO 10993-5
“Biological evaluation
of medical devices – Part 5: Tests for in vitro cytotoxicity”.
The Center has specialized
facilities, including the Cell Culture Laboratory
and Molecular Biology Laboratory,
where studies have been conducted since 2022 under the Good Laboratory Practice
(GLP) Quality Management System.
The unit holds a GLP certificate
for in vitro basic
cytotoxicity testing
(registration number 17/2024/DPL).
Comprehensive preparation of tissue material for microscopic analysis
– fixation,
dehydration, embedding, sectioning, staining;
performing standard histological stains
(H+E, PAS, Masson, etc.)
as well as immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent
stains
for the detection of specific antigens and cellular structures;
histometric
analysis of tissues – measurement of surface area, cell counts, and structure density.
Molecular biology research,
including: high-quality DNA and RNA isolation from
tissues and cells;
quantitative and qualitative analysis of genetic material;
gene
expression analysis (RT-qPCR); protein analysis (Western blot, ELISA);and cellular
characterization using flow cytometry.
Culture of primary and immortalized cell lines,
stem cell culture isolated from bone
marrow and adipose tissue,
laser microdissection of cells for further molecular
analysis,
and microfluidic cytometry.
Elemental analysis of biological, environmental, and pharmaceutical samples,
including:
o Determination of heavy metals
and contaminants in drug and supplement formulations,
Characterization of the size and dispersion of biological nanoparticles
(liposomes, exosomes), Spectrophotometric analyses in biological and toxicological studies,
Comprehensive sample preparation for analysis (mineralization, filtration,
dilution).
