CENTRE OF TRANSLATIONAL MEDICINE

The Centre of Translational Medicine of the Warsaw Academy of Life Sciences combines three major research centres whose aim is to conduct innovative analyses on the borderline of veterinary medicine and medicine. These are the Veterinary Research Centre, the Biomedical Research Centre and the Centre of Regenerative Medicine of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Professor Zdzisław Gajewski is in charge of the new research unit. He is the originator and supervisor of all the projects: the Veterinary Research Centre, the Biomedical Research Centre and the Centre of Regenerative Medicine of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

Veterinary Research Centre

The Veterinary Research Centre was financed within the Mazovia Province Operational Programme 2007-2013, Priority 1 – Creating conditions for the development of the innovation potential and entrepreneurship in Mazovia, Action 1.1. Strengthening the Research and Development Sector. The total cost of purchased equipment amounted to about PLN 15 million gross. 85 per cent of that sum came from EU funding, and 15 per cent from the Special-Purpose Reserve of the State Budget.
The Centre is a set of laboratories featuring state-of-the-art equipment. The Veterinary Research Centre of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences conducts groundwork research with the aim of resolving major current research problems within the range of biomedical and medical-veterinary research as well as implementation studies.

Biomedical Research Centre

The Biomedical Research Centre was set up at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in 2015.
To establish the centre, the university received funding amounting to PLN 30 million from the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013. The funding was used to set up a new laboratory and to modernise the existing laboratory of the Equine Diseases Clinic and to purchase unique research equipment. This has made it possible to study diseases which pose a threat to broadly conceived public health. Research studies are carried out on animals. During these studies, all ethical norms are observed. Innovative studies from the borderline of veterinary medicine and medicine are conducted in modern laboratories.

CENTRE OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
In July 2018, under a decision of the chairman of the Mazovia Province, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences received a sum of over PLN 66.6 million within the Regional Operational Programme 2014-2020 for the creation of the Centre of Regenerative Medicine and the purchase of advanced research equipment, which enables the development of innovative studies within the field of clinical and physiological sciences and advanced regenerative medicine. The total value of the project is over PLN 87.8 million. The Centre of Regenerative Medicine is a project included in the Polish Roadmap of Research Infrastructure.
The investment consists in the creation of new laboratories and the adaptation of existing facilities (the expansion of the building, including a new superstructure) for the Centre of Regenerative Medicine. An integrated set of laboratories featuring innovative equipment was set up for the purpose of animal studies. Advanced projects from the borderline of medicine and veterinary studies will be implemented at the Centre under the generally accepted ‘One World – One Health’ principle. The projects will be carried out within the scope of physiology and pathophysiology of diseases, studies of diseases which pose a threat to broadly conceived public health. Cutting-edge research within the range of highly specialised regenerative medicine will also be conducted, reflecting the highest world standards.
